We’re in Brazil!! The team is doing great – which is no surprise because it’s a GREAT group! Many of us have already experienced authentic Brazilian coffee as well as some fabulous cheese bread (pan de queijo)! We arrived in Sao Paulo, took a bus (with very comfortable seats) to another airport, and are now flying from that airport to Brasilia. Every one has their luggage (yay!) and we made it through customs with absolutely no trouble! This is wonderful considering we have TONS of extra odd things in our bags that we brought over for games, crafts, and wacky science for camp! The most trouble we had was in Atlanta where Lauren was asked to step aside and was given the pleasure of a full security check – the wand and all. The team found it quite entertaining!
We have just about an hour before arriving to Brasilia where we will be greeted by Angela (Rubenacker), who has been here for a week preparing for our arrival. She has been working very hard with our Brazilian friends (Marney, Andre, and others) to prepare the church where we will be serving and Agua Viva which will be our home this week. We will also meet the Brazilians who will be teaming up with us to run camp and undergo training with them this weekend. Angela sent us an exciting e-mail yesterday saying that our first week of camp is full!!
Here’s a little something on every one:
John and Trudy – got to see old friends who met up with us at the airport in Sao Paulo
Carol Erica – survived her first international flight and did quite well
Lauren – made friends with a Brazilian basketball player and tried to convince him we weren’t from the states (he saw right past it)
Kristin – is in good spirits in spite of her hurt knee (pray for swelling to go down)
Adrianne – was SO excited to watch High School Musical 3 on the plane
Savannah – had a great time winding through loads of people at the Sao Paulo airport with a cart that had a busted wheel
Melodie – is currently enjoying a cat nap
Tiffany – is carrying an extra bag for us full of cotton balls and pool noodles
Keenan – has given Brazilian coffee a big thumbs up!! (and says hi to Nicole)
Leslie – has been overseas several times but is excited to be in South America for the first time
Juliana – is enjoying being “home” as she lived in Brazil for 3 years
Jimmy – is doing his best to document the trip with photos (he’s taking pictures of signs and such for you, Brent!)
Tricia (me) – is excited this is all really happening (and also thankful for sleep on the plane thanks to a neck roll – thanks, Mom!)
We’re hoping to find internet so we can post this before we drive out to Agua Viva tonight. Thank you for praying for us! Chao!
